Home Brew Log

Feb 2006: Canadian Blonde

Used Coopers Canadian Blonde mix plus 1kg Brew Enhancer 1. Temperature hovered around 27C for most of the brew. Bottled about a week later (well after it had stopped bubbling) on 01/02/2006 into plastic bottles.

First tasted on 16/02/2006, bland/watery but not offensive. Very little head or head retention. A month later (16/03/2006) it had improved a little, slightly more head, but still very bland. By June/July (four months after bottling) it was much improved, along with the appearance of the head.

Mar 2006: Real Ale

Coopers Real Ale mix plus 1kg Coopers Brewing Sugar. Started on 01/03/2006. Bottled 05/03/2006 (with SG at reading 1009) into 0.5L glass bottles.

Didn't taste great initially, but improved with age. By 12/07/2006 it was quite drinkable, but not my favourite.

Sep 2006: Australian Pale Ale

Coopers Australian Pale Ale mix plus 1kg Brew Enhancer 2. Started on 06/09/2006. Initial temperature 21-22C. Dropped the tin into the wort when I was emptying it, oops. Had cold weather, and brew barely stayed above 21C. Heated it up in a water bath a few times, which provoked brewing activity, but it was generally too cold. Finally bottled it on 14/09/2006 with SG at about 1010.

Tasted quite alright in the end, despite all the problems.

Feb 2007: Canadian Blonde

Got another tin of Coopers Canadian Blonde on special, this time with brewing sugar instead of the "brew enhancer" stuff. Started on 31/01/2007, managed to keep temperature around 25-27C, and bottled it without incident on 06/02/2007.
